Journal Article Review


Task Sheet: Journal Article Review (CLO 5)

Value: 15 percent  

You will review an article from the library database. The article should describe a primary research study employing social science methods (questionnaires, interviews, mixed). Both articles should include sections 1 to 3 below. 

Components

Section 1 – Library research description (250 words)
Section 2 – Article abstract (100 words) and references (on one separate page)
Section 3 – Research description (300 words)
Section 4 – Article evaluation (250 words)

Section 1 – Library research description  
  1. Choose a topic of social importance or a social research topic related to your major area.  
  2. Access the HCT library web page
  3. Using one or more of the HCT library web page search applications, find an article or a book chapter about the topic.  
  4. Each article you select must have a description of primary social research.  
  5. Describe the process by which you found the article or chapter. 
  6. Name the search application used
  7. State the search words and/or phrases which you used 

Section 2 – Article abstract and references

The article you choose must include an abstract. The abstract is a short description of the topic, purpose, and findings of a research article. 
On the title page, you write the college logo, the title, student name/s. supervisor's title and name, the date, and other necessary details. The title should be written in capital letters.
The abstract (100 words) must be clear and concise. There should be no quotations or in-text citations in the abstract. It should be written on a separate page.
References (in APA style) should also be written on a separate page. 

Section 3 – Article research description

Describe the research and the findings in 300 words. Points for discussion should include:
  1. The population (who, where and when)
  2. The research approach (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed)
  3. Sampling or participant selection procedures; N sizes; data collection methods
  4. The main results 
  5. Any important information missing from the research methods described or the results.
  6. Any problems with the data relative to the conclusion.

Section 4 – Article evaluation

Write an article review in which you discuss why you think the findings are important (in 250 words):
  1. What important information does the article provide?
  2. How are the findings important to your topic area? 
  3. How might the information be important to professional practice or public policy? 
  4. Based on the findings of the article, explain what more you would like to know about the topic.

  14. Renewable energy application (who and how many are using what sorts of RE)
  15. Research and scientific development in the UAE 
  16. Retirement planning
